Don’t make the mistake of just using AI automation to accelerate what you currently do. As often what you are automating might not even be needed in an AI-enhanced world.

It is important to also look two, three, or five steps ahead.

We can see this now in the field of online learning. People are starting to get excited about using AI to build and author eLearning courses. In the short term, this will indeed be a great use for Generative AI. I have built prototypes for this, where you enter in some details, such as learning outcomes, audience, prerequisite knowledge, and it outputs eLearning courses, with great text and images, and it will even create Scorm packages ready for use. Yes, this is possible and being done now.

Yet this stays within the paradigm of “singular courses on singular topics”. This just does what we have always done but automates it with some AI. What is coming next?

Let’s move to a topic we all spend way too much time on, streaming tv shows on Netflix, Prime and Disney. The distant future is something that actors are striking over today, such as demonstrated in the latest Black Mirror show, where AI uses voice and likeness of known actors to create a tv show overnight for the audience.

Yet what is coming is even more prevalent, disruptive and exciting than that.

The AI will know your favorite actors, your favorite genres, and what you love. Overnight it will create a new movie, just for you. The days of a new Mission Impossible X movie being release to 100 million people will be over.  Instead, there will be 100 million bespoke version of Mission Impossible X released, one made especially for you!

This is many steps ahead, no doubt, but only years away not decades.

Between now and then, the steps will likely be
AI language dubbing with mouth matched video ( avail now).
AI editing for country and age sensitives (avail now).
AI scene reproduction from many angles ( available in early release) .
AI reproduction of fake extras ( avail available in early release).
AI reproduction of known actors in any pose or scene ( avail available in early release).
AI authoring of scripts ( available now).
AI authoring of personalized scripts ( available now).
Etc.
until you get to 100 million bespoke version of Mission Impossible X released.

Love old Stargate SG1 series? Season 11 to 20 is coming with fake versions with the same characters you loved….

“Star Trek: TOS – Friends – Seinfeld  could all come back with extra series, made just the way you like them!

Returning to using AI to build monotopic courses, whilst it may be interesting for a year or two, it much like using automation to build horseshoes in the age of cars.
