Who writes the best AI prompts? It’s not who you might think…

Companies often turn to their developers to write prompts for them. Our experience is that developers are so locked into the mindset of writing “logical code” that they are unable to write effective prompts for the AI. Often developers get frustrated with the prompt as they don’t behave deterministically like their code does, yielding different results each time and resisting fine control. The concept of AI hallucination is infuriating to developers.

The AI has been trained on human communication, not machine communication. Human language not machine language.

So, somewhat paradoxically, someone who is great socially, or writing material for humans’ consumption can do best.

Some example include

👉 Educational Background in Humanities or Social Sciences:
Individuals with a background in humanities or social sciences, such as linguistics, philosophy, or psychology, tend to have a strong grasp of natural language, critical thinking, and the nuances of human communication. They can craft prompts that are clear, concise, and considerate of various interpretations.

👉 Experience in Technical Writing or Communication:
Professionals who have experience in technical writing or communication can blend logical structuring with clear and effective language use. They are adept at breaking down complex concepts into understandable segments, which is crucial for creating precise AI prompts.

👉 Analytical Thinkers with Creative Flair:
A balance of analytical thinking and creativity can be particularly beneficial. Such individuals can logically structure their prompts while also thinking outside the box to anticipate different ways an AI might interpret their words.

Others can include good public speakers, authors, editors, linguists, and other roles that engages great language skills.

Great team = Great results

The perfect prompt writing team would encompass the following roles:

A Team consisting of:
👉 The Subject Matter expert.
So, depending on what AI assistant you trying to build, an Instruction Designer, an LMS Admin, or a UX expert. They need to be intimate involved to understand what they want assistance with.

👉 The English Language Specialist
Humanities /technical writer/ business analyst etc. Someone who can talk to the AI like another person, not like a machine.

👉 Logic Specialist
Developer and techy types. People who understand the three core logic flows:  loops, decisions, sequences

If you are able to put Prompt Teams like this together under oversight of an AI Team Leader, you will get far superior and much faster results.
